SUMO project is a multi-disciplinary studio which practice focuses on the integration of Art, Architecture and Urban Design.
We have a unique combination of Urban Design, architecture and cultural knowledge. Our team has a talented group of people whose practices are based on best principles, community involvement and simplicity in design.
Believing that “specialization is for insects”, we find opportunities in unusual places, to explore how our creative practice can contribute to improve the spaces we inhabit, public or private, with the use of art
SUMO PROJECT
We love to collaborate, cross pollinate, interweave… and use the multiple and varied perspective to maintain the benefits of breadth, diverse experience, interdisciplinary thinking to figure out what type of approach is best before arriving to a solution.
Gaston Soucy and Ruth A. Mora, founding partners , are Architects registered with the Ontario Association of Architects with Master degrees from the University of Toronto in Urban Design and Architecture + Fine Arts respectively. Ruth Mora is part of The TPAC (Toronto Public Art Commission). Their combined experience includes architectural, urban, landscape and industrial design projects as well as curatorship, art and installations.
Pedro Mora-Izturriaga
Designer and Communications Associate
Pedro is an architectural professional specializing in graphic design, visual communication, research, and fabrication. As SUMO’s Communications Associate, he brings together design, research, and technical knowledge across a range of projects.
Drawing on his architectural background, Pedro is actively involved in design research, contributing to the collection, synthesis, and visual interpretation of research to identify relevant precedents, frameworks, and opportunities that inform design and policy development. His architectural and fabrication experience also supports the development of design concepts into buildable solutions, with a focus on materiality, detailing, fabrication processes, and constructability.
