Architecture

A 4-storey, 1,120.98m2 addition to a historic 4-storey 854.53m2 hostel near Kensington Market in Toronto. The design call for a contextual built-form approach to the existing building which has historic significance but, at the same time, modernizing the façade and aesthetics with contemporary materials and design.

The project will add 27 rooms (163 beds) to the existing hostel, a ground floor lobby, winter garden and ancillary café directly accessible from the street, an additional kitchen, lounge area and a rear exterior patio garden at the basement level, and a private 4th floor lounge and green roof terrace for hostel guests. The building will be fully accessible and include green initiatives such as radiant heating, solar panels, heat exchangers, geothermic energy, and storm water management systems.

This is an on-going project.
